The essence of a relationship with Christ is to experience the presence and awareness of God in our lives. It’s important to realize there is no right or wrong way to meditate or pray. Meditation helps us practice engaging with someone we know is present but is too often absent from our awareness. Meditation and prayer are not rituals or duties to be performed. They are the gifts that help us organize our conscious state to the spiritual reality of the presence of God. Meditation empowers our whole heart, mind, and soul into a unified state of focusing our entire being on Christ. We learn to discipline ourselves and not let the thoughts and cares of the world draw us away from the presence of God. Christian meditation spotlights our minds’ thoughts to contemplate God’s love for us and humanity.

Meditation centers on the word of God and the character of Christ in our life. It is the discipline that liberates our minds to tune our hearts to be in harmony with the spirit of God. It is a practice that helps us grow in the knowledge of God and be conscious of the distractions in our minds we need to release. Meditation has the power to energize the Holy Spirit in us so that we might unite our hearts with the heart of God. We become conscious of what God desires for us and the changes we need to make to become more Christlike. We experience the ever-present reality of God in our lives so that we might pray effectively to do the will of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
